Government Establishes New City in Preah Sihanouk Province

The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a sub-decree to establish a new city—Kampong Som—in Preah Sihanouk Province, marking a significant step in urbanization.
Kampong Som will consist of five Sangkats: Ream, Bith Trang, O’ Oknha Heng, Boeung Ta Prohm, and O’ Chrov, with the municipal office located in Ream. Until the municipal council is formed, the Prey Nup District Council will continue to manage these communities.
With this new city, Preah Sihanouk Province now has three cities and enhances the quality of life for residents while promoting economic growth and infrastructure development. This initiative reflects a commitment to future urban planning and boosts the province's domestic and international influence, providing residents with more social services and economic opportunities.
