The torch-lighting ceremony for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, which are being hosted by Cambodia, was presided over by King Norodom Sihamoni on March 21 in the morning at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. The relay of the torch will formally begin.
The occasion was attended by luminaries including Prime Minister Hun Sen. The launching ceremony took place in front of Angkor Wat as the sun slowly rose from its spire. The king lighted a holy fire, the torch was lit, and then the torch tower was lit, making it a somber and religious occasion.
After the event, the flame is said to be housed in a special lamp at a temple in the province of Siem Reap. It will leave Siem Reap in the late afternoon of March 22 and go to Hanoi, Vietnam, the ASEAN nations, and East Timor before returning to Cambodia by April 27.
On April 28, the torch will be delivered to Phnom Penh after returning to Cambodia.
The torch will take over in provinces and cities all throughout Cambodia after returning to Phnom Penh, including Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, and Kampong Cham. The SEA Games' formal opening ceremony is on May 5 at around 2:30 p.m., and the dates are April 29 to May 5.
The officials in Siem Reap also planned for the traditional Khmer fairy dance to take place at Angkor Wat during the torch-lighting event. The fairies danced smoothly while wearing polite and magnificent attire.
